Job Title: Senior Structural Engineer
Location: Newport based office + working from home

The ideal candidate will already be working in a similar role and can expect to assist with:

Delivery of concept design, detailed design (including full tender and construction packages) project documentation, design calculations and sketches.

Attending client, design and site meetings.
-
Undertaking structural / site surveys following up with structural reports.

Liaising with statutory authorities, Architects, M&E consultants and contractors.
We are looking for someone with the following attributes:
-
A minimum of 5 years engineering experience who is qualified with a BEng/MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering and Chartered / working towards Chartered Membership of the IStructE/ICE.

Strong interpersonal, communication, analysis and technical design skills.
-
Excellent problem-solving skills with an ability to apply practical thinking.
-
Excellent knowledge of Engineering Design Principles, competent in design of timber, masonry, steel and composite construction to both British Standards and Eurocodes.

Working understanding of Tekla design software (or similar) is preferred such as Tedds, Structural Designer, Portal frame, connection designer.

Ability to produce written reports.
-
Excellent attention to detail.
-
Experience of attending site meetings.
-
Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise a demanding workload.

A good working knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office. Some basic IT knowledge will be essential due to the working from home element.

Knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit will be beneficial but not essential.

A Basic knowledge and understanding of Civil Engineering (including drainage and groundworks).

Training and mentoring is available for candidates keen to work towards professional accreditation.
The ideal candidate will already be working in a similar role and can expect to assist with:

Production of detailed drawings including general arrangements, sections, elevations and enlarged details.

Detailing building elements such as foundations, walls, floors, roofs, retaining walls and building frames using timber, masonry, steel, mass, precast and reinforced concrete.

Production of existing / proposed drawings and details for refurbishment projects covering a wide variety of building construction types across multiple sectors.

Collaborating with the structural engineer, design team and other professionals to develop and co-ordinate construction drawings and responding the queries as they arise.
We are looking for someone with the following attributes:

A minimum of 2 years’ experience

HNC, HND / BEng, BSc or similar qualification

Good knowledge of building and construction.

Experience in detailing building structures including differing types of foundation solutions, masonry construction, structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, timber and precast concrete general arrangements / details for new build and refurbishment projects.

Proficient in AutoCAD, including an ability to manage data, X-refs, layers etc.

The following skills will be an advantage, but not essential as further training can be provided: Ability to use Autodesk Revit with and understanding of BIM, Ability to produce reinforced concrete detailed drawings and bar bending schedules.
